Frequently Asked Questions

PDI stands for Personal Data Information. A DBC administrator will email this survey to people who request services. The PDI includes the person’s home address, contact information, faith background, current struggles, family information, etc. After completing the PDI, the prospective counselee will send it back to DBC for review.

Each male counselee will be counseled by two men. Each female counselee will be counseled by two women. Married couples will be counseled by one male and one female counselor.

As soon as the two counselors review the PDI and find a suitable date and time, they will email you to confirm a time and date.

Counseling sessions are one hour each week for approximately 12 weeks. The number of sessions may be increased or decreased depending upon the nature of the situation.

Deaf Biblical Counseling (DBC) creates an ASL environment to help Deaf people with problems such as marriage conflicts, parenting issues, addictions, mental health disorders, fear, anger, grief, depression, anxiety, etc. Our counseling approach is based on the truths of the Bible, which provide God's wisdom and comfort in the difficulties Deaf people face.

The counselors at DBC are Deaf people who are fluent in ASL and trained in biblical counseling. DBC offers counseling for individuals, couples, families, and churches.

DBC wants counseling to be available to anyone who needs it. That is why DBC offers counseling free of charge. The only possible cost might be the price of books and other resources used in counseling sessions.

DBC believes that all things are possible with God. There is hope for everyone through God's Word and the Holy Spirit.

History

In the fall of 2003, Kevin Hamilton and Chris Pennington attended the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC) conference. They saw that Biblical Counseling could help many Deaf people.

After Kevin became certified, he saw the pressing need for Deaf people to receive counseling in their own language.

Starting in 2018, Deaf Biblical Counseling (DBC) was established with its first eleven Deaf counselors.

Today, DBC continues to train counselors in different states and countries. Many sessions are done through Zoom video conferencing. Most importantly, God is using the DBC team to help many Deaf people find help and hope in Christ.

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.

(2 Peter 1:3)

Donations

Would you prayerfully consider supporting Deaf Biblical Counseling? There is a great need today, more than ever, for Deaf people to find help and hope in Christ. Your support would promote God's glory in the Deaf world by enabling us to train and oversee counselors, produce training and counseling materials in American Sign Language (ASL), travel to teach Deaf groups about biblical counseling, and send our counselors for training in key areas. Through this support, we could minister more effectively to the needs of Deaf people.
